January Ypsilanti Death Cafe – CANCELED

*CANCELLED*
Please join us at the next cafe in February.
The Gallery at Stone & Spoon is honored to host Hanna of Acacia End of Life Services for monthly Death Cafes bringing the Ypsilanti and surrounding community together in a safe environment to discuss death.
What is a Death Cafe?
A Death Cafe is a social franchise. Hosts sign up and follow principles and guidelines while using the name Death Cafe. Our objective is ‘to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives.’ A Death Cafe is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session. The evening is a lot like any other group discussion you’ve been to, except we talk about death and all things death related. Conversations are free flowing, and the evening doesn’t have a set agenda. These conversations evolve naturally, and everyone is welcome to contribute, however, staying quiet and observing your first time is OK too! We provide the coffee, water, and light snacks — you just show up!
Death Cafe Principles:
– Offered for free but, donations greatly appreciated
– Free from ideology
– Safe and nurturing
– Accessible and respectful of all- regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, religion
– Confidential
Masks will be required, regardless of vaccination status, to ensure the safety of all attendees. Mobility note: Our beautiful 19th century building has no elevator, so all attendees will need to take a flight of stairs to our second floor to access The Gallery at Stone & Spoon.
We are safely monitoring COVID 19 and continue to do our best to keep everyone safe. With a surge in winter cases, we may play with some new ideas of staying in person but outdoors and/or socially distanced. If you are not feeling well, please stay home, the next event is only a month away.
