Poetry Workshop & Roundtable Led By Alaina Foster

Join us for a Poetry Workshop/Round-Table led by Alaina Foster on Saturday, February 4th at 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM.
The workshop is a space to share poetry in progress and receive feedback from other writers and me. In the hour we will have a conversation about the strengths and opportunities of the work created, also building our local writing community. A writer can ask follow up questions to feedback. Bring copies of your work, something to take notes on & with. This workshop is suggested donation of $10/per person.
Looking to perform your newly perfected piece of poetry? Join us for the Poetry Open Mic after the workshop at 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM.
Led by local Poet, Alaina Foster, the Poetry Open Mic is a space for performance of spoken word poetry, slam poetry, and written word. This is an inclusive and encouraging environment to get your work out there and practice delivery.
The open mic is an event open to all levels of skill, newcomers, anyone that wants to read their poetry out loud. A sign-up for short 5-7 minute slots will be available prior to the beginning of the open mic and will receive preference. When the list is concluded, any time left over will be open time on the mic. Read your work, practice, experiment with a new style. Or even read someone else’s work, a poem that you love. Subject matter may include swearing or triggering content and are not necessarily the opinions of the Gallery. Suggested age 12+.
This is an event with suggested donation of $5 to attend/perform during the Open Mic. Pay what you can. All suggested donations will go to supporting the operation & continuation of supporting the arts in The Gallery!
Alaina Foster is a queer non-binary poet from the Midwest residing in Ypsilanti. Their work spans decades and subject matter from social justice to mental health to humor and relationships. They have performed their work in poetry slams across the country as well as internationally and encourage everyone to experience and engage with poetry. They have terrible stagefright and perform anyway.
